Valerie’s Face: Before & After MakeUp

Earlier this week, I got extremely curious about the difference that make-up makes on my face and so I tried a little experiment.  I made up one side and left the other totally natural.  I’ve been under the influence of my beauty guru Suzanne and bought some new makeup (keep reading for that info).  The picture below is totally unedited.

When I was in kindergarten, I got chicken pox (and scratched them in my sleep) and now I have almost 30 scars on my face.  I used to be incredibly sensitive about it but now I’m proud to say they do not bother me at all.  My mom told me that [when I was 5] I used to cry about “not being pretty anymore” after the chicken pox had their way with my face.

On the make-up’ed half of my face the scars are being disguised with concealer and foundation.

My brows are also in dire need of waxing but I disguised that with make up as well  :)

My foundation is HD Invisible Cover Foundation by Make Up Forever.  I bought it at Sephora after being really impressed by their $10 tube of HD Primer (can be found in the travel section at Sephora).  The foundation is $40 but it should last about 6 months (when applied with a foundation brush).  I LOVE how natural it looks, my skin looks like skin (just perfect airbrushed skin lol).  I use HD Microfinish Powder to set the foundation.

Another product that I’m really impressed with at the moment is L’Oreal’s Voluminous mascara (the kind in the gold tube).  It’s the best drugstore mascara I’ve ever used.

Anyhow, I love both sides of my face…I truly do.  The make up does the work of concealing the cosmetic flaws but I think true beauty comes from being comfortable in your own skin (and if make up helps you do that more power to you!).

Share your favorite make up products with me in the comments (or we can just talk about my freaky looking face)!

P.S. Here is a video with my former beauty application regimen (it’s changed quite a bit since, hopefully I’ll have an updated one soon).

I’ve used all 3 MUF products you mention and I love the foundation and the finishing powder. During a recent trip, I forgot my Lancome mascara at home so I broke down and bought Maybelline’s The Falsies Volum’ Express mascara at the nearest Wally World. I have been very pleased with it. This is the only drugstore mascara I’ve used twice (and then some). While I won’t stop using Lancome, I definitely recommend MFVE. It separates my eyelashes beautifully, gives them lots of volume and extra length without weighing them down. :)

Wow! Your make up does wonders! You are beautiful with or without, but I love to see the difference side by side like that.

Quick question for you: do you have oily skin? I only ask b/c I’ve been hearing great things about Make-Up-Forever but am really afraid of using it for my adult acne oily skin. What are your thoughts?

Brilliant post! I’ve never heard of that line of make-up. Will check it out soon.

Candice – I have combination skin, really oily T-zone. I think this MUF product would be perfect for you, it’s very matte http://www.makeupforever.com/products/complexion/face-body.html It’s what I plan on using in the summer when I’m oily all over. It’s full coverage and what I have on is medium to full and a natural finish,

I have used L’Oreal’s volumnious mascara for years & years. Probably since I was in 7th grade! I’ve tried other mascaras but I always come back to it!

    Hi there,
I only just came across this so sorry if its a bit late.. I also suffer from chicken pox scaring on my face =(
Does a primer minimize the chicken pox scars? I’ve never used one but i’ve been told they help with wrinkles so i can only assume it would help with scaring?
Your gorgeous by the way! i used to be embarrassed about my chicken pox scars too but have now learnt that it makes up who i am :)

Primer definitely helps.  I actually use L’oreal Studio Secrets Face Primer now (found at any drugstore) because of the way it settles into the grooves of my chicken pox scars and then the foundation pretty much erases them.  They are MUCH less noticeable and I’m not self conscious about them anymore.

great idea using simple baby powder for shine first! no wonder i look so plain, there is lots of layer here! can’t wait to try that….
